- What is RADIESSE®?
- RADIESSE® and RADIESSE® (+) are cosmetic injectables made up of tiny calcium-based microspheres which are suspended in a natural water-based gel. These calcium-based microspheres are similar to minerals found naturally in your bones and teeth. Over time, RADIESSE® begins to stimulate the production of the body’s natural collagen and elastin for a sustained effect.13
- Has RADIESSE® been tested and certified?
- RADIESSE® was licensed by Health Canada in 2005.18
- What is the treatment procedure?
- Your healthcare professional will explain the treatment options available and discuss the best one for you. Typically, one treatment session takes approximately 35-45 minutes. The effect will be visible immediately after injection.19
- What if I am taking medication?
- Please inform your healthcare professional before treatment if you are taking medication, even if it is not a prescription medicine. Taking anticoagulants and painkillers including aspirin and some vitamin supplements can lead to unwanted bruising. Your healthcare professional will advise you accordingly.20
- Are there any side effects?
- As with any injection, patients may experience side effects such as mild irritation, swelling, redness, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site. These possible side effects are usually mild and related to the procedure. Most are short term and disappear within the first few weeks. If any other side effects appear or you feel unwell, please consult your healthcare professional as soon as possible.20
- How long does the effect of RADIESSE® last?
- Results are long lasting, but not permanent.5 How long the effect of a RADIESSE® treatment lasts is dependent on the individual. There are many factors to consider, such as the structure of the skin, your lifestyle, and age. Studies show that in nasolabial fold treatments (the lines that run from the nose to the corner of the mouth), for example, results last up to 12 months.5 The procedure can be repeated, please consult with your healthcare professional about what is appropriate for you.
